The ice house in the woodland.

Castlemilk hall, Carmunnock.
Carmunnock Church (Stuart lair)

This print (left) was made in the early 1700's and shows the pond side of the tower, the bridge is on the left (unseen) and the waterfall on the right. As you look at the tower you can see 3 windows on the wall, look carefully at some of the following pictures and you can see them clearly. The painting on the right is from the late 1790's and shows the tower next to the stables, but the tower door is facing the pond. from the angle of the painting, the artist must have been situated on the hill just behind the Cassiltoun housing association offices.
The above pictures show the building with extention wings almost tripling the size. The front door is now facing towards the stables. Changes to the building occured at the same time as the bridge and other land projects were taking place.
When the lands of Castlemilk were being extended through marriage and by purchase of land, it was obvious that more rooms and living areas would be needed to house the servants, cooks, footmen, laundry maids, coachmen and more. Rooms in the house were alocated to butlers, maids and cooks, but some lived in the stables and cottages. The bridge was reconstructed at this time and driveways cleared for smooth access.
