Discovery....

Back in 1969 when they started to demolish the old Castlemilk 'keep', one of the joiners called in to remove panelling realized that this peice of work was far to good to be torn out and tossed on a bonfire, he refused to destroy this item so it was removed and placed into storage. The storage area in Renfrew was flooded early 1990's and once again this was under threat of destruction. By this time Castlemilk History group were formed and picked up on this, after discussions with Glasgow building preservation trust (GBPT), it was once more saved, cleaned and placed in their offices in Miller street, Glasgow.

Home coming.......

After the history group lost funding and folded, Lost lands took up the task and inherited information that this group had gathered for safe keeping. After a visit to GBPT, and being told that the 'fireplace' was too large for the offices, Andy Miller of Lost Lands decided to approach Castlemilk Economic Development Agency and try to bring it back to Castlemilk. Talks were good and an area was choosen for display. The public would now be able to view this. It now stands in the CEDA building in Castlemilk and can be viewed on request. It will be relocated in the stables building after renovation.

Visits to view.....

If you would like to view the fireplace please contact CEDA before hand to arrange the visit, NO visits are available at weekends as the the building is closed.
